Our reusable ziplock bags make cooking and food storage easy with their heating ability and compact structure. These silicone bags are very compact when stacked together in your fridge or freezer. Plus, the reusable bags roll up into a small space when you have consumed the food stored in them. Whether it is a sandwich, snacks or soup, your reusable ziplock bags won’t take up much room in your travel bag on the way home.
Our reusable ziplock bags are made from quality food grade silicone, meaning their chemical structure allows them to be heated to up to 220 degrees Celsius. These reusable bags can be heated up in the microwave and oven, and put in a pot of boiling water so they are great for steaming veggies or cooking Sous Vide style.
Our reusable ziplock bags are air tight when sealed with the sliding rod, meaning you can use these eco-friendly bags to store soups, casseroles and liquids. These reusable bags are very easy to clean as they can be put in the dishwasher or hand washed.
Can I put the sliding seal rod in the oven or microwave?
Unfortunately, because the rod is plastic, it cannot be heated in the microwave or oven.
Are the reusable ziplock bags dishwasher safe?
Yes, you may certainly put the reusable ziplock bag and the sliding seal rod into the dishwasher to clean, or wash by hand. We recommend drying the bag over a glass on the drying rack.
What temperature can I heat the ziplock bags to?
220 degrees Celsius in the oven.
Can I turn the resuable ziplock bags inside out?
No, unfortunately you can’t turn the ziplock bags inside out. To clean the hard to reach places in the bag, we recommending using a straw cleaner to get inside every nook and cranny.
The best part about our reusable ziplock bags?
Our vegan friendly silicone contains NO:
Instructions + disposal
Opening & closing
Hold the silicone toggle with the hole at the side of the ziplock bag firmly, and slide the plastic seal rod across the top of the bag. You may have to pull the rod quite firmly the first few times you use your new reusable ziplock bag. Once the reusable bag has been used a few times, the rod will become easier and easier to slide on and off.
To put the plastic seal rod back on the bag, feed the rod with the open end onto the ziplock bag side without the toggle. Feed the bag through the rod in small increments and then firmly pull the bag tight once almost at the end.
Before using your reusable ziplock bags
Once you have opened up your new Eco friendly reusable bags and taken them out of their recycled cardboard packaging, please wash them in some warm soapy water. Next, we recommend coating your new bags with some light cooking oil to prevent future stains and smells from any colourful foods.
How to clean the reusable ziplock bags
Our reusable ziplock bags can either be hand washed in some hot soapy water or put over some prongs in the dishwasher and the seal rod in the cutlery holder. The best way to dry your reusable bags is to place them over a glass in the drying rack, or peg them on your washing line. Do not ever turn the reusable ziplock bags inside out, it will degrade the strength of the bonded edges. To clean the hard to reach places, use a straw cleaner or sponge inside the bags to remove any leftover food residue.
Removing stains and mould
Colourful foods can sometimes leave colourful stains on the silicone ziplock bags, because silicone’s chemical compound means it likes to stick to things! Foods like beetroot, turmeric and red curries are some of the culprits that like to stain everything. Mould also likes to make an appearance when your left overs get forgotten about at the back of the fridge... We are all guilty of this from time to time! But no fear, the reusable ziplock bags can easily be sanitised.
We recommend using a little chemical free DIY recipe to remove any stubborn stains or mould:
- 1 tea spoon of bicarb soda
- 1 tea spoon of white vinegar
- Boiling water
- Fresh lemon juice (to remove the vinegar/bicarb smell and cut through grease)
Soak the bag with equal parts bicarb soda and vinegar, and add boiling water with some freshly squeezed lemon juice for approximately 1 hour. Then thoroughly wash the bag out with soapy hot water and a sponge. Dry as per usual.
Why should I ditch the disposable plastic Ziploc bags?
Approximately 1 trillion plastic bags are used around the world each year, according to 1 Million Women. Disposable plastic bags come in many shapes and forms, from shopping bags at a retail store, to sandwich and Ziploc bags bought in bulk. The thing they have in common is that they are only used once, but take over a lifetime to break down.
Here are some crazy facts about plastic bag use in Australia:
- The average Australian uses 170 plastic bags every year.
- 150 million plastic bags end up as litter
- Only 3% of plastic bags are currently being recycled
- 200,000 plastic bags are dumped in landfill every hour
(1 Million Women, 2016)
Why are so many Australians still using single use bags!? Convenience, ignorance and old habits are the main reasons. Now we have the chance to change and play a healthy part in this environmental revolution. Small changes each day mean big changes overall.
Investing in reusable items not only helps the environment, but also your wallet. If you take care of your reusable ziplock bags, they will last you for decades. Imagine not having to buy plastic Ziploc bags for the next 10-20 years? Let’s do the math….
- 1 box of disposable Ziploc/sandwich bags: $5 for 100 bags
- Let’s say you go through 4 boxes per year for 10 years: $200
- 1 set of reusable ziplock bags costs between $20-45. That is up to $180 in savings from switching to reusable ziplock bags!
